Working at U.S. Army Transformation and Training Command in Austin
Defense & Government · Neighborhoods, commute data & housing
The U.S. Army Transformation and Training Command (T2COM) is the Austin-based four-star command that took over the mission of Army Futures Command. AFC was established in Austin in 2018 and was deactivated on October 2, 2025, in a ceremony at UT Austin's LBJ Auditorium; it merged with Training and Doctrine Command to form T2COM, which kept the Austin headquarters. The command was deliberately placed outside a traditional military installation to keep it close to the private technology sector, academia, and the venture capital community. Its portfolio covers next-generation weapons systems, artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, long-range precision fires, and soldier lethality programs, alongside the Army's training and doctrine mission. The Austin headquarters staff mixes active-duty soldiers, Department of the Army civilians, and contractors who work shoulder to shoulder with local startups and university researchers.
